A number of weeks ago, we decided to make Kailey's room a little bigger. She is standing here in front of her crib. She hasn't slept in it for many months. But, it has been kept together, just in case we needed a way of container her. She has been sleeping in a toddler bed which is to the right, just outside this picture. Therefore, in Kailey's VERY small room, she has two beds, leaving very little room for play.
It occurred to us this spring that Kailey is very too big for the Pack-n-Play she has been sleeping in when we leave home. And, if we were to go anywhere this summer (camp with Nana and Papa or California for Shannon's wedding) Kailey was going to need to learn to sleep in a big bed. We put together the extra toddler bed we had and kept the crib intact in case things didn't work out one night... which happen a number of times with Heather. However, if there is such thing, Kailey was a natural at sleeping in a big girl bed. She had very few problems falling asleep and staying asleep, even thought she knew she could get out of bed anytime she wanted to. She has been very proud of herself for being able to get out of bed in the morning on her own without having to call to someone to get her out. So, I decided a few months ago to take apart Kailey's crib. It can be changed into a toddler bed, so I took apart the older looking bed she had been sleeping in and then converted her crib into her new 'big girl bed'. Kailey has been very happy with it :)
It also makes her room much bigger since she only has one bed it in. Sometime soon we'll change her from the small room into the much bigger guest bedroom/computer room. But, we'll have to find some time to pick out paint for her new room. Maybe we'll wait until she can pick a theme or something fun for herself. Then, we'll need to find a way of fitting a guest bed and a computer into Kailey's current room.
