Now with competition from her active little sister and our adventurous neighbors, Heather has begun riding around the driveway and steering in circles. Tonight, we decided she was ready for the big road:
Heather needed help getting up some hills (but not all, which says a lot since we are located at the bottom of a hill that must be climbed every time we leave the house!), but overall, she did quite well.
She looked both ways when she got to a street, used her breaks very well as she went down hills and was able to catch herself as her bike tipped over on the unlevel ground. Balancing with training wheels is always more difficult than truly balancing and riding a bike on your own.
As you can see, both Heather and Sam are happy about the new found freedom. With Heather getting bigger, the double stroller has become hard to push and Heather ALWAYS want to help push, which is usually not helpful or fun. Sam has had some rough months without too many walks just because the walk and the effort to get ready and the arguments that happen when Heather tries to be 'helpful' just aren't always worthwhile. But, now with Heather riding, she can ride, Kailey can sit in the single stroller and we can walk further without Heather complaining about getting tired.
Good days ahead for both Sam and Heather!
