Heather's Dance

Last weekend (yes, this is more recent!) Heather performed in her end of the year ballet/tap dance recital. The woman who teaches dance has done this for 26 years and does a great job! The dance studio has 3 separate performances at the end of the year: 11am for the little kids (about an hour long), a 3pm for some older dancers (2-3 hours!) and then a final BIG show at 6pm with some of the same dancers from the 3pm show and 40 more dances (another 2-3 hours!). I know a parent who basically had to sit there from 11-8pm watching her two kids dance. Ugh!

Heather likes to go to dance, but doesn't always seem to be into it. However, even though the picture below doesn't show it, she did a great job dancing this year and did most of the moves of the dance. This picture was taken at the dress rehearsal a few days before the final show. They do the dress rehearsal so the kids know what it's like on the big stage and, I think more importantly, so the parents can get pictures and videos of the kids. You can't stand and get this close during the real show, but, during the dress rehearsal parents can stand right up at the stage and get pictures and videos. Heather was a flower in the underwater world of Ariel from the Little Mermaid and danced to the Octopus' Garden. It was a cute show and it's always fun to watch the kids. I picture putting all of this together is somewhat like trying to herd cats: the oldest kid is about 6 years old and the youngest is about 3. The outcome is probably different every time. But, the kids love it.
Heather didn't seem to understand the concept of flowers at the end of the show last year for a job well done. But, this year, she understood it completely and wanted to make sure she got a picture with all her flowers from Nana, Mommy, Daddy and Auntie Jenn.

Heather won't be dancing in the fall. She has decided that she would like to tumble with Kailey at the gymnastics studio where Kailey has been playing. So, this past week, both girls went to gymnastics and did very well. Maybe Heather will dance again in the future. But, for now, we get to go to just one place one morning a week. That makes things a little easier for us!
