Every now and then, we sit down and watch a movie before bed. These are always very exciting nights because the girls get to 'stay up late' and we get popcorn. The movies range from a short Baby Einstein video to home videos of Heather when she was Kailey's age. A few months ago, we pulled out my copy of the first season of the Muppet Show. This has been very eye opening to say the least. Here are a few things we have learned as we have watched the Muppets through adult eyes:
1) This was a 'Prime Time' show. Some of the scenes are somewhat suggestive. Others are past suggestive and borderline on questionable! We saw one with Sandy Duncan where she danced around in a bar, singing about drinking as she did shots at the bar and then basically tore off her skirt to dance. The one tonight involved a VERY well endowed puppet who kept throwing her chest around during her Arabian dance.
2) The Swedish Chef has REAL hands, people hands. It's very similar to those Weimaraner dogs that they took pictures of dressed up like people.
3) Statler and Waldorf are still very funny.
4) As with most shows of the 70's and 80's, there is a laugh track. Honestly, it didn't need one; it's very funny and could have been pulled off with a live audience.

Both girls have found the Muppets to be funny; Kailey more so than Heather due to Kailey's sense of humor. (For those of you who know Kailey, it really should be no shock that Kailey finds the Muppets pretty funny.) As we have mentioned before, Kailey isn't one to sit and watch TV (no matter how much we beg her!). But, when she watches the Muppets, she usually interacts with the skits, clapping between segments and pointing to the funny characters.
And with all popcorn nights, Sam is never too far away, just in case something may fall into his mouth!

As you know, Teacher, different kids get different things from the same experience. I kind of think Kailey would do well in preschool. I think her interactive skills with others besides her big sister, would grow, as well as her verbal skills.

Isn't it weird to watch the same cartoons that we did as a child, now as an adult? You definetly see a whole lot more and catch on to what the sneaky writers were up to! Pee-Wee's Playhouse was HORRIBLE!!!
Looks like ya'll had fun.
