Oh, when did I get so old?
Kailey has recently become very interested in our sofa cushions. Almost nightly, Kailey will pull the cushions off the sofa, sit on the empty sofa and/or play on the displaced sofa cushions. Heather, who maybe never realized that sofa cushions could be used that way, or knew it just wasn't a good idea, never played with them until now. This obviously could lead to endless games and possibilities.
BUT, everytime they play with the cushions, they jump on them, bend them or make a mess of the bare sofa. I'm always worried the cushions will get flattened, permently creased or otherwise destroyed. This is basically what we have come to expect from things Kailey initiates. With many things, 'destroying' isn't too big of a deal. However, this sofa is the first sofa Bill and I have purchased. We have spent our time together with passed down sofas and chairs. This year, we finally went to Ikea and got an almost fully washable sofa. With that, we just don't love the cushions being used a toys. I play along for awhile, but always end up encouraging something less destructive and less expensive to replace.
Maybe I just need to show them how to make sofa forts which don't require the bending of cushions. This would also greatly extend what is bound to be a short lifespan for this poor sofa.

I know what you mean about the sofa cushions...same thing happens here. What about collecting a bunch of old bed pillows to jump on? J~
My brother, sister and I were professional mulit-sofa fort builders--and all the family sofa's still are intact... granted-- they don't make 'em like they used to, but... just wait until they realize that they can have a bigger fort if they haul the cushions from upstairs and downstairs to the dining room table for a bigger fort... fun, fun, fun!
